PAYING FOR PSYCHOTHERAPY
Figuring out how to pay for psychotherapy services can be a confusing process. Please consider that you have the following options:
If I am on your insurance panel:
I participate in a limited number of insurance panels. Please check with your insurance carrier to determine if I am a provider on your panel. The Insurance Verification Form provides a list of important questions that you will want to ask when you call. The answers should give you with a clear understanding of your mental health benefits, and what your insurance company will cover.
If I am not on your insurance panel:
If I am not a provider on your insurance plan, you might be able to use out-of-network benefits coverage from the insurance company to defer some of the cost of therapy. However, you are responsible for the full costs of psychotherapy services, regardless of what your insurance reimburses. I will provide you with a statement (Called a “Superbill”) that includes information that the insurance company needs to process claims. You will be responsible for submitting the statement to your insurance company. In certain circumstances I am able to bill your insurance company as a courtesy.
For a wide variety of reasons, many individuals with insurance coverage chose not to use it. This is referred to as paying “out-of-pocket” and may offer you more control over your mental health treatment. You have this right. However, if you do chose to use your insurance coverage, and I am a provider on your panel, I am obligated to accept the insurance based on the terms of my contract with the insurance company.
Please feel free to discuss your options with me, and I will work with you to help you make the decision that is best for you and your family.
